Brick Corsair Flash Survivor vs Voyager GT
A little while back, I ordered some Flash Voyager GT 64 GB USB3.0 drives. The Survivor 32GB USB2.0 drive I had just wasn't cutting it anymore and my co-worker needed something newer for him as well.

The reason I choose this particular USB drive is because I actually had one of these a few years back but smaller in capacity. It was working great until one day, I went to unplug it from my computer and gripped it too hard pulling the entire rubber case from the electronic portion. It didn't last too long after that. Sad

Finally, they arrived this week! Smile

First off, we were surprised to see how big it was. Some horseplay comparing it to a certain body part was exhibited. Sorry no pics of that! Wink

Here's a pic of the two together.

Since it will be used at work and there are currently no USB3.0 capable computers, I did a quick bench mark tests via USB2.0 comparing the two. Even on USB2.0, the Voyager GT is a lot faster than my old drive and it should be less time consuming to back up user data now.

For sh!ts and giggles, I did a bench mark test via USB3.0. The read access is pretty bang on but the write speed was slower than spec'd.

135 MB/s spec'd read speed and 83 MB/s write speed spec'd

One thing that is weird is that it was pre-formatted as FAT32.

Pros - Very fast

Cons - It got kind of warm, not sure if the rubber case will act as an insulator and causing it to overheat.
- May lose cap like my boss did on his a few years back but the vendor said that we can buy the caps separately.
- Wish it had a hard shell like my Survivor drive

But it doesn't matter, the speed makes up for everything. Big Grin

Thx for the review... However I still love the survivor. After having dropped it from the top of a scissor lift and then running it over with said scissor lift, i'm hooked.

Yeah that's basically the point of the rubber bit and boy does it work. One of my friends ran over one unintentionally with his car after it fell out of his jacket pocket and later found it on the driveway ... still worked.

actually, mine didn't have the rubber bit on it. They had came off a week earlier... Still good without them...

You're lucky then, a lot of people complain that it basically breaks if it does come off. But that just reinforces the point: these thnigs are built to withstand some punishment Smile

Wow, I've never dished out that much punishment on my Survivor drive.

But I do miss the dog tag chain and swinging my Survivor drive around with it. It's not the same when you know you can hurt yourself with the soft rubber casing of the Voyager drive.
