RE: So you want to run a RAID array...
Just a little FYI using desktop drives to setup a raid. A lot of the manufactures will Now void your warranty if you use them in a raid. If they do fail.. don't ever mention raid in your description of the problem Big Grin

Desktop drives can't really handle all the massive amounts of reads/writes the raid create. You might get away with raid 0 or raid 1 but others might cause lots of rebuilds which in the end will mess up your performance.

had a clients that setup servers with a bunch of wd black 7200rpm sata drives in a raid 10 and almost every week they had to rebuild the array which in the end cause overall performance to go down the tube. Note the rebuilds lasted 3-4 days because he was running sql on it.

SSD + Raid = fast but dies 100x faster than they should Big Grin be ready to replace them.

If you are planning on a storage server with lots of drives and dont want to pay much use WD Red. They can handle the nas/raids very well. They aren't fast (5400rpm). Also WD Enterprise drive (they are black too but say Enterprise on them) these are 7200rpm and are about 20-30 more than the Reds..

WD Blacks are fine for arrays, I've been running them in one for 3 years now.
